The main design brief for this kitchen was to create a beautiful but practical space - the rooms and usable space at the property are spread between three buildings, so ensuring that the space was used in the best way possible was of paramount importance.
The floor and wall tiles are in a black and white chevron pattern, this meant that choosing a monochrome colour palette was the most obvious choice. To warm up the space a little we also included the chene de poutre feature doors. These are a real oak door which adds a modern chalet touch to any kitchen.
We love designing kitchens for unique properties in Morzine, and Les Trois Mazots was no different. The property itself required a modern twist on chalet style; the kitchen itself is based in an open plan room with a seating area and log burner. This meant that when planning the design we had to to ensure the living space and kitchen complimented each other as much as possible.
The property itself didn't have an abundance of natural light in the kitchen area; the client requested matt dark grey doors which absorb the light as opposed to reflect, so we used the chene de poutre doors to contrast and lighten them up. The other show stopping factor of this kitchen is the granite worktop and upstand - upstands are usually around 10cm high, at Les Trois Mazots we opted for a 50cm upstand which added a real wow factor to this kitchen.
The white cachemire granite with pale blue/grey veining really lifted and lightened this kitchen; we chose it because it contrasted well with the tiles and interior, wasn't too bold (we didn't want to take away from the statement chevron tiles), but added a subtle, classic freshness to the kitchen design. There are no wall cabinets in this design, instead a subtle wood shelf sits above the splashback to add a modern finish, again without darkening the kitchen.
In terms of useability and practicality the granite worktop and melamine doors are an excellent choice for a rental property; granite needs to be occasionally treated (this differs depending on the type) but the upkeep is minimal. Melamine doors are easy to clean and are a cost effective option for any kitchen. The kitchen has handle-rail openings (set back handle rails into each cabinet) which provides a sleek modern finish and also are easy to maintain.
Appliances included in the design are all Bosch; dishwasher, fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, and hob with integrated extractor - this extraction system recycles back into the room, and there is a removable part where the grease collects which you simply remove and put through the dishwasher to clean. One of the tall cupboards is specifically designed to hide the fuse board - a completely bespoke cabinet to ensure that the ktichen has a full sleek finish.
The sink is an undermounted Franke sink, and the granite worktop has an engraved draining board, this is an excellent option if worktop space is reduced, or if you do not want to take away from the sleek design by adding a metal draining board onto the worktop.
